Intro to Lumber Ops

LUMBER: Dave Gessner

Special Orders Don’t Upset Us, BUT…………

We place lumber orders every Monday for Wednesday delivery that includes common hardwoods such as poplar, cherry, maple, sapele, walnut, oak, cypress, cedar, padauk, and various plywood grades. All lumber is kiln‑dried, rough‑cut 4/4 stock, typically in 10‑foot lengths.

While our wholesaler can often supply larger dimensions when needed, special orders apply only to larger stock sizes—not precise, customcut dimensions. The dimension that will be specific is the thickness, but width and length will vary based on availability.  As a wholesaler, they do not mill lumber to exact specifications.

One of the benefits of the VWC is access to professional equipment that allows you to mill lumber to your required dimensions. Please keep in mind that our vendor will do their best but cannot provide lumber cut to exact sizes.

Lumber Ordering and Storage

Our lumber operations manager and his assistants will serve your needs for lumber of any type thickness and length.  We stock the most common wood species and thicknesses for immediate use by our members.  For lumber in stock, simply get in touch with any of the Lumber Team.

However, members can order lumber by contacting the Front Desk and completing an order form.  You will need to pay for any lumber you order at the time of delivery.

The only restriction on ordering lumber is that we will not stock nor order Pressure Treated lumber. Only lumber NOT treated with green cyanide salts is permitted in the shop.  You can use lumber such as "Yellow Wood" in the shop.
