Maintenance

ROLLLING ACRES MAINTENANCE: Mike Green

Very little to update.

The new dust collection system has not been delivered to the shop. As soon as we have a firm date, we will update the membership.

The new a/c equipment requires the roof mounts to be modified. The contractor is working on this.

We have started reorganizing the wood storage building. We will be able to store longer lengths of lumber for the membership when we are done.

We have been working in the assembly area to rearrange the clamps. Moving the Bessy clamps from above the toolbox down to floor level. Also moving the long pipe clamps from the corners of the area into racks.

The maintenance shop has been cleaned up and reorganized.

We are looking for a heavy-duty wooden desk for the maintenance shop. We are also looking for wood vices for tables in the shop. If anyone has one they would like to donate please leave a message for Mike Green at the front desk at Brownwood.

BROWNWOOD MAINTENANCE: Mike Niesen

We have had a recent issue and questions regarding Pressure Treated lumber.  An internal decision has been made that due to residue on cutting blades and vapor from the lumber, NO Pressure Treated lumber will be allowed in the Brownwood shop.  I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

I have been recently asked how do I join the Maintenance Department.

It's really simple First stop by the maintenance office and fill out a Facility Support form.

What does maintenance do?

Maintenance Department is made up of two levels.  Blue Badge and Yellow Badge.

Blue Badge opens the shop in the morning, briefs the monitors, checks the vacuum system to ensure functioning, checks table saws, planers and jointers to insure proper operation.  Blue badge is scheduled about twice a month starts at 7am duty last until shop is opened.

Yellow badge is more involved; Yellow Badge performs PM on the equipment to ensure smooth operation for the members, repairs of the equipment to the best of your ability, assist members with the operation of the equipment as needed.

Yellow Badge also has overall responsibility of the shop which could involve uncomfortable conversations with members, if improper operation or unsafe practices are observed.

Yellow badge is scheduled about twice per month; shifts are 8:00am - 12:00noon and 12:00noon -  4:00pm.

If interested, how do I get trained?

For Blue Badge we have Frank Warren, an experienced woodwork and longtime member, who will work your first shift to show how the system works and what actual duties entail.

For Yellow Badge we have Marty Verdick also very experienced woodworker, you will spend at least three shifts with Marty.

Learning location tools and parts that are available, maintenance logs, manuals etc...

If you are interested or have more questions please consider stopping by the Brownwood maintenance office, I would be glad to give you more information or answer any questions.
