General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00PM

 

Mike Borfitz, President, lead the pledge of allegiance with a moment of silence and an offering of prayers and thought for those in our club membership and their families

Introduction of new members and guests – New members and visitors were welcomed and asked to introduce and tell a little about themselves.

Mikes’s Announcements:

·         Hoedown day was a great success. Posted pictures of the kids having fun. Received donations of $175.

·         Jan. 31 was drop dead date for membership renewal. Approximately 808 members with 63 people on waiting list. At the March BOD meeting the waiting list will be addressed.

·         No update on the second shop opening.

Open floor to questions:

·         Question: How is CNC progress moving along? - Hans Zassenhaus answered the question. Course is still a work in progress but is expected to take place in three parts. 1) Design of project, 2) Principle of CNC and 3) Getting on the machine. Hopefully pilot program will take place this summer with education courses scheduled for spring of 2018.

·         Anne Bell announced there are still openings for AED class on February 21. If interested call Anne. If your spouse would like to attend that is possible for a fee.

·         Question: Will there be any turner’s classes open? - John Herega answered the question. No training classed scheduled; however, watch website as one may open up.

Glenn Croteau - Maintenance Department

·         Talked about spruce-up weekend – March 2 thru 4. 

·         Rack and sheet material that does not have a label on it will be removed. Material can only be stored for 30 days.

·          Cannot store anything on top of storage bins. No locks on the bins. Keep it clean. Door on storage bins must be fully closed.

Show and tell –

Mr. Voyteck explained how he made a beautiful box he called 5 woods. He offered to help anyone who wished to make a similar type box.

Salt and pepper mills were a copy of one’s made by Mike Borfitz for colonial days. They were made from specter plywood. Mike was offered a choice to take the original or the copies.

Elliot Schantz announced that 47 pen have been turned to date for the veterans. Anyone wishing to help turn pens can receive kits from Elliot.

50/50 Drawing: The club took in $135 dollars and retained $70.00. Prizes were - $20, $20, $13 and $12.
