Board of Directors Meeting
June 28, 2018
Call to Order
A board of directors meeting of The Village Woodshop was held on
June 28, 2018 at 704 Oak Street, The Villages Florida. It was called to order
at 7:00 PM and was presided over by Harm Borfitz for John Herega, Chairman.
Mike Borfitz for Byron Porter as Secretary. A quorum was met and established.
Attendees

Approval of Previous Minutes
Motion to
approve the minutes of the previous May 24, 2018 meeting was made by, Mike
Cromwell and seconded by, Sandy Moraco. The minutes were unanimously approved
by all with any additions and/or corrections
Old Business
· Mike is looking for someone to run The Members Christmas Raffle and The Special Olympics Christmas Tree.
· After a discussion of the manpower usage of the shop Mike Cromwell made a motion to except 20 new members coordinating entry time with certification training. The motion was seconded by Conway Williams. The motions were voted on and approved by a unanimous vote.
· Jonathan Baker returned from missionary work out of the country and has asked to be readmitted to the VWC. A motion was made by John Scott to move John Baker’s name to the top of waiting list and increase the number to 21 new members. Motion was seconded by Conway Williams. John Scott amended the motion to keep the number of new members admitted at this time to 20 members. It was seconded by Conway Williams. The motions were voted on and approved by a unanimous vote.
Officers’ Reports
Chairman Report was presented by John Herega.
· No Report
President Report was presented by Mike Borfitz
· We have agreed to a three-way partnership between the developer, the district, and the VWC. The developer will develop the land and bring in the necessary utilities. The district will build the building and VWC will furnish the necessary tools and equipment. The VWC will put up $100,000 cash and accept a $200,000 line of credit. This debt will not negatively affect our resources.
· The June town meeting for the general membership went well.
· All orders for urns in the Villages have been built and are awaiting pick-up.
· 2-day CNC classes will be held at Laurel Manor starting now and will continue through December.

· Glenn Croteau presented a motion to except the budget as presented it was seconded by John Scott and unanimously approved by all with any additions and/or corrections.
Office Administration Presented by Anne Bell
· Anne Bell presented the 2019 Calendar of Events. A motion was presented by Bob Bell to except the Calendar and seconded by Glenn Croteau and unanimously approved by all.
· A discussion was held to determine what actions should trigger waivers for monitor duties. A committee was formed to examine the rules for granting exemptions – Dave Adamovich, chairman; Jim Spallone; Glenn Croteau; Bob Bell; and Anne Bell were appointed to this committee. Their findings should be presented at the July meeting.
· Membership dues need to be addressed during the July meeting.
Shop Administrator Presented by Glenn Croteau and Dave Adamovich
· The crew which has been tasked with opening the shop in the morning has been fully staffed.
· The present drum sander is expensive to run and maintain. It needs be replaced with a belt sander which would be more cost effective. Cost for replacement is about $6,100.
· The Tool Crib for the new shop will be a duplicate of the old shop. Glenn has suggested that cabinets etc. which will be built by members be stored in a POD and kept on the grounds of the VWC until they are needed in the new shop.
Safety Committee Presented by John Herega for Harm Borfitz
· The new bylaws will go to the membership on September 15 for their approval at the October 2018 general membership meeting. The output will show both the old and the new, so the membership can clearly see the changes.
Toys Presented by Conway Williams
· Toys continue to make progress. No external community activity in June.
· Toy production: produced 686 toys for the month. 1,134 toys ahead of last year.
· There were no shipments to clients in June.
· Toys will be back at Lake Sumter Landing Town Square on Thursday September 13th from 5-8:30
Other Reports
New Business
· Conway Williams presented to the VWC the opportunity to purchase an Epilog 60-watt Legend Mini 24 CO2 Laser System for the VWC. A member has offered to sell us his machine with all the upgrades and attachments for $15,000. A design software program (Corell Draw) is required to run this machine. With this software and machine, the shop would have the ability to both engrave and cut intricate patterns in the same setup. With this purchase, the owner has offered to train members of VWC in its use. The toy department has been able to use this machine for several years and can testify to its ability to greatly increased toy production. A motion to purchase an Epilog 60-watt Legend Mini 24 CO2 Laser System was made by Glenn Croteau and second by Sandy Moraco. The motion was amended to include Corel Draw and Accessories not to exceed $1,000. The motion was tabled until next meeting by Glenn Croteau. Conway distributed to the BOD a copy of the proposal for purchase on 6/28/18.
