The Villages Woodworkers Club

July 14, 2015

Laurel Manor

Meeting called to order by President Mike Borfitz at 7:10

1)      Pledge of Allegiance and Silent Time - As always, please remain standing to offer up prayers and thoughts for those in our Club who need kind thoughts, prayers or just your consideration. Let’s add Bob Mathews daughter to our quiet time.  He was at Shands today with her where she is undergoing tests for suspected viral Meningitis. Please add Jack Tage, as he had surgery today.

2)      Membership and Visitor Tally – Introduction of new members.

The records show that we are up to 851, which is 4 more than last month’s meeting. Our membership stands at 847; that means that we have 60 new members so far for this year.

We entertained 85 guests in the past month, down 7, from the previous month.

3)      Vending Machine – We continue to tweek the vending machine situation.  At the request of one of the members, we asked for more diet soda in the machine and today I spoke to them about adding Snickers bars to the offerings.  If you wish one of your favorites were available, please let me know!  We may be able to make it happen!

4)      Let’s Build Card Holders” Night – “Let’s Build Card Holders” was a great success.  Just short of 300 units were produced in about 2 hours.  Thank you all who participated.

5)      Theft in the Shop – Now I’d like to turn to an uncomfortable and aggravating topic……. And I fully realize that I may be preaching to the choir, but the choir has some responsibility too.  FIRST SLIDE This is not new - SECOND SLIDE Fortunately, in the past when we have realized that items are missing, we have been able to track them down and the incident has proven to be an honest mistake.  However, THIRD SLIDE recently we have had theft of some larger items:  A plastic case full of wooden pen blanks which belongs to Bob Krcelic and an expensive saw blade owned by Bob Bell.  Neither item was just lying around easy for the pickins’.  If you have any information on these items, PLEASE contact the owners, numbers shown here……… or just drop them off at the front office.  I recognize that a lot of “stuff” FOURTH SLIDE is left in the open and may be very tempting, but……FIFTH SLIDE  let’s review some commonsense Shop rules. If there is a FREE sticker on it, help yourself.  Otherwise, leave it alone!!!!  If it’s in the way SIXTH SLIDE  and you feel compelled to move it, take it to the front office. SEVENTH SLIDE  Let’s review, “If you inadvertently take it and it isn’t yours, return it to its rightful owner, or the front desk as soon as possible.”  “If you take it, it isn’t yours, and you keep it… The Shop will report it to the authorities.”

When I started this topic, I mentioned that you, the choir also have a role: 1)Keep your eyes out for apparent “sticky fingers” incidents and report them to an officer; 2) Do your part to make sure that theft isn’t something for which we all pay if dues need to be increased to cover it.  Thank you!
