Reports

President – Jim Spallone:  We’ve added 6 new members since July 12th bringing the added total of new members for 2016 to 88. We now have 896 club members. We’ve had 2 or 3 new members resign, for various reasons, this past month.  We’ve had 62 visitors. Many tours have been conducted by various club members, which he and the front desk staff are grateful. This summer has been unusually busy with many new members joining. Typically, we have new members join during the fall and winter months.

There was a compromise in Mike Borfitz Capital One credit card, as well as switch from a swipe to chip card by Capital One, for all those who have an authorized card. Resulting in numerous cards being issued by Capital One.  All of the extra cards have been identified and destroyed accordingly.

Anne Bell provided the managers a listing of exempt members working for them and requested that they reconfirm if these members are still volunteering in their departments, if not, they’ll be removed from the exemption list and will be required to serve monitor duty.  Anne must have these lists back by the end of August.

During the last EOC meeting Jim, Dick Besler, John Herega, Harm Borfitz and Dave Adamovich agreed to meet to discuss the scope of monitor training. As a result, Dave will put together a list of shop maintenance duties he’d like to have the monitors trained to complete.

Doug and Jim discussed last year’s budget process, wherein a member chaired the budget. This proved to be confusing, convoluted and there was a lot of procrastination. This year Jim and Doug will frame out the 2016 proposed budget and will provide to the Department Managers. They’ll need the manager’s input for one to two years of the capital budget. The budget will include items for the capital budget as well as the 2015 budget for their review. Managers will need to respond by September.

The 2016 Christmas Party date of December 10th will not be changed and the Christmas Party Committee advised the party is to be catered by Francesco’s Italian Restaurant serving chicken and salmon, a table antipasto and desert.  Tickets will be sold at the front desk again this year.

Vice President –Harm Borfitz:  No report

Treasurer – Doug Parks: Financial Reports:  Balance Sheet as of June 30, 2016 – Total Liabilities and Equity $274,944.81. Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual from January through June 2016  - Net Income (-) $13,472.41, Budget $5,166.00, Over Budget $8,306.41 and % of Budget is 260.79%.   The income is up as result of new members joining the club.

Discussion:  No questions.

Other Reports

Office Administration – Anne Bell:  The price of member’s name badges has gone up by $2.00 each. Our previous vendor passed away and the new vendor is charging more.  Discussion: John Herega reported that he found the missing pieces to the club’s engraving machine and now the club can produce nametags in-house.  Anne will need to purchase the blank tags with the club logo and she’ll have the names added by front desk volunteers. Anne gave a brief overview of monitor duty, to educate the board, as to why the shop needs to have a lot of extra subs.  Anne reminded managers, in attendance, that she must have the monitor duty exemption list back from them by the end of August, so the system can be updated, before taking payment of new dues on October 16, 2016.

Safety Committee – John Herega:  No news to report from the safety committee.

Turners – John Herega:  The large lathe bid was reduced to $200 from $500. Presently there is a $350 bid pending.

Shop Administration – Dave Adamovich

Dave has trained some of the “Need Help – Ask Me” volunteers on the new Shaper.  He’ll repair the cable on the Delta table saw himself, since he wasn’t able to get any help from Delta. The 8in joiner ended up having a bad capacitor, they previously thought the motor went out. The air handler in the back of the shop is a dehumidifier and it is broken. Dave called Fred Longagren with The Villages to request someone come out to repair, he has not heard back from Fred.  Dave would like The Villages to put in A/C in the back of the shop.

Discussion: Jim asked Dave to get with him, so they can contact Fred together.

Toys – Conway Williams:  4666 toys have been made and 2155 shipped, with a donation value of $18,880. Conway is sending out partial shipments early, to help free up space. He’s working with Stephan Yovanto make room in the lumber shed to store made toys and donated wood.

Special Projects – Hans Zasserhaus:  There has been a lot of interest in the upcoming Special Projects general meeting on August 9th, which is hopeful.  The intake of special projects has slowed down, due to summer months and the hold on taking in new projects.  Bernie Harkins is now overseeing and producing pre-made items.  He is not able to make the slant boards fast enough.

IT/Media – Mike Borfitz: Harm reported for Mike.  A new all in one printer has been purchased for the back office.  The IT team is examining network possibilities to replace the current Buffalo system. The intention is to provide speed for the front desk system along with adequate capabilities for the other computers in the club.

New Business:

Alvin Corenblum would like to explore various ways the club can get Urns to veteran’s and their families, club members and residents of the tri-county area.  Alvin will work up a proposal and submit to Jim Spallone and the Board for consideration.

Bernie Harkins would like to have the club’s square footage increased by at least 2,000 sqf.  Bernie will head up a committee, for the purpose of putting together a proposal to submit to The Villages requesting additional square footage be added to the shop.   Committee members will include, Bernie Harkins, Jim Spallone, Mike Borfitz, Conway Williams, Alvin Corenblum, Larnie Cross, Bill McGinnis.

Discussion: Jim Spallone explained that Mike Borfitz, while President of the Club, approached The Villages requesting that the shop be expanded and was turned down.

Open Discussion(s): Reminder there will be no meeting in August 2016.

Motion to Adjourn: Called by John Herega and second by Frank Giaccone and unanimously approved by all.
