BINDERS:
Kathy Howe has all the manuals in binders except for the new
Stubby Lathe Manual.
FACE SHIELDS:
We will continue to promote the use of face shields . No further
action to be taken.
INSTRUCTORS:
No progress this month. John still to meet with Bob Matthews.
MESSAGE BOARD:
Still need a volunteer to be
responsible for the message board.
SAFETY STRIPS AND
PARKING LOT RESTRIPING:
Both complete.
MONITORS:
A policy is to be written
and approved by the board concerning the use of three (3) monitors on the floor
instead of the two (2) currently employed during the peak season. John Herega will
bring this to the board.
SAFETY CHAIRMAN
BACKUP:
John will be actively pursuing a backup for
his position as Safety Chairman.
VIDEOS:
A number of videos have been
produced with emphasis on safety. They are all available on line. Specifically they are:
·
Proper use of the
picture frame machine.
·
Proper sharpening of
gouges
·
Differences in the
club’s lathes.
·
Sander video with
emphasis on the use of the guides.
INCIDENT:
An incident occurred at the
8” joiner where a member slipped and fell but was uninjured. The floor under the mat was extremely
slippery and the mat slipped under the individual’s feet. John Herega has
taped the mat down but further discussion centered on what could be done to
assure a better gripping surface. This
needs to be addressed.
JOINER/USE OF PUSH
STICKS:
There was an accident on the
joiner when an individual using a push stick failed to push the piece
completely through the gate so that it didn’t close and then when bringing the
piece back had his fingers cut by the blade.
We should somehow emphasize the absolute need to push your work
completely through the gate such that the gate completely closes. This should
be addressed to the entire club.
GOLF CART PATH:
Three (3) foot section of
path not completed. Jim Spallone will be contacting Lady Lake concerning this issue.
INCIDENT/ACCIDENT
REPORTING:
Using the current incident/accident
reporting process often does not result in all the pertinent information needed
for a thorough investigation. More
detail is needed. To this end Harm Borfitz will take
responsibility for writing a procedure for reporting all incidents and
accidents. It was noted that it would be advantageous for a safety committee member
to be available at the time an accident report is being prepared. This may be difficult and depends on a safety
committee member being in the shop at the time of the incident/accident. Harm will work closely with John Scott and
have the written procedure reviewed by the Safety Committee and
also by Anne Bell since it will
involve front desk personnel. It should be noted that incidents are not
currently reported. An incident is
defined as an event that does not result in a personnel injury and an accident
involves injury.
Suspending summer
meetings:
The committee will discuss
suspending Safety Committee meetings for the months of June, July and August at
the next meeting.
