Board of Directors Meeting

September 27, 2018

 

Call to Order

A board of directors meeting of The Village Woodshop was held on September 27, 2018 at 704 Oak Street, The Villages Florida.  It was called to order at 7:00 PM and was presided over by John Herega - Chairman, Byron Porter - Secretary. A quorum was met and established.

John Herega, Alvin Coreblum, Sandra Moraco, Conway Williams, Bob Bell, Mike Cromwell, Harm Borfitz, John Scott

 

Members not in attendance included:

 Mike Borfitz, Ann Bell, Doug Parks, Jim Spallone

 

Approval of Previous Minutes
A motion to approve the minutes of the previous July 26, 2018 meeting was made by, Harm Borfitz and seconded by, Alvin Coreblum, the minutes were unanimously approved by all with any additions and/or corrections.

 

Chairman Comments

Deborah Larouere would like all the instructors to go through certification and safety class with the intent of having them familiar with approved practices. After each class, a check list form would be completed by the instructor covering these topics.  

 

 

Old Business

·         The present drum sander is expensive to run and maintain. The drum sander needs to be replaced with a belt sander which would be more cost effective.

 

Officers’ Reports

 

Chairman Report was presented by John Herega.

·         No Report

 

President Report was presented by Mike Borfitz

·         Mike covered what was happening with the second shop.

·         Ron Badami will head up the Christmas Raffle.

·         Sandy Fuller with Judy Sullivan’s assistance will head up the Special Olympics Christmas Tree.  Theme will be Winter Wooden Land.

·         Colonial Days will be held on Friday January 18, 2019. Mike is still trying to find a Chairman for this project.

·         Conway Williams will Chair Ho-Down-Days on February 9, 2019.

·         Corel Draw – The club has 50 licenses for sale to the membership at a cost of $50.00 each.

 

Vice President Report was presented by Jim Spallone

·         No Report

·         The pens program needs more volunteers.

 

Treasure Report Presented by Doug Parks

·         See The Village Woodshop Club’s Server for the budget details.

·         Harm Borfitz presented a motion to except the Treasure Report as presented; it was seconded by John Scott and unanimously approved by all.

 

Office Administration Presented by Anne Bell

·         A list for wavers for members who are exempt from monitor duty was presented. John Scott made a motion to except the list as is. It was seconded by Bob Bell and unanimously approved by all. The list contained 260 names.

 

Shop Administrator Presented by Glenn Croteau and Dave Adamovich

·         No Report

 

Safety Committee Presented by John Herega for Harm Borfitz

·         The Board of Directors should appoint a member of the VWC to be the Chairman of the Safety Committee. 

·         An incident report is required for anything greater than the use of a band aid.

 

Toys Presented by Conway Williams

·         Toys continues to make progress producing year to date a total of 6,655 toys.

·         Toys will participate in Ho-Down- Days on Feb. 9, 2019 at the Polo Fields.

·         Toys will be at Brownwood Thursday October 11th from 5-8:30

·         Toys have made use of some of the new machines. The CNC machine and the Laser Engraver are examples.

 

Other Reports

·         John Scott asked how we are going to build up membership for the new shop.

·         It will be at least one year before the new shop is opened.

·         A suggestion was offered for consideration, pay up front for 4 years and get the 5th year free. This increase in revenue would help us to pay off the building loan quicker.

·         Harm Borfitz presented a motion to allow 20 new members into the shop. The motion was seconded by Bob Bell and unanimously approved by all.

·         No one is allowed in the club to work or participate in club activities if they are not members of the club.
